To be responsible to the Unit Manager as a memberof the staff team for the direct day-to-day care ofthe children and young people and other supportivetasks and duties.Essential to the position1. A commitment to Residential Child Care as apositive choice for children/young people and theprinciples of the 1989 Childrens Act.2. Commitment to team working and a flexibleapproach.3. An openness to new ideas and innovative ways ofworking.4. A positive view of client children/young peoplebeing looked after.5. Good communication skills, both verbal andwritten.6. Proven ability to maintain, on a day to daybasis, the necessary systems to maintain a healthyand safe environment.7. Ability to allocate staff resources to theoptimum uses.Desirable for the position1. 1yr+ experience of working with children.2. Creative approach to day time and leisureactivities.3. Possess varied life experiences.Must be able contribute to the normal developmentof the children and young people through theprovision of a healthy lifestyle, a variety ofappropriate stimulating activities and consistentand caring adult model.To provide On Call cover as per the guidelines tohomes within the geographic grouping.To be alert to signs of distress or abuse, and toensure that the children and young people aremonitored and protected.To be sensitive to the needs of individualchildren, taking account of race, culture,language, religion.To talk and listen to children, and to observetheir behaviour, and record significant features.To contribute to care planning, participating inreviews and other meetings as required for theirkey child(ren), and to assist in the implementationof care plans.To provide additional support and comfort tochildren under stress.To control children who need bounds set to theirbehaviour.To provide for childrens physical needs asnecessary, for example, by cooking, washing,ironing, shopping, bathing, budgeting, or byenabling children to carry out such tasks forthemselves.For full Job/Person specification please apply.
