Description:

The Project Chief Engineer shall be responsible for initiating, guiding and controlling the design activity in responseto a defined project or business requirement.The Project Chief Engineer is also responsible for the following: Accepting full design responsibility for the System design as contracted and maintain design logs. Being responsible for Requirements Management-Definition of customer specified and derived requirement. Being responsible for the consideration and integration of all design requirements relating to ILS, Safety, Quality andManufacture. Being the authorising signatory on all drawings created on the project within the company and to be the technicalapproval signatory for documents having a significant technical content. Adopting and enforcing a systematic and methodical design process including requirements management, safety management,hardware definition, document delivery, decision making and trade studies. Ensuring the company Engineering Process as defined in CP0004-010 is adhered to on the project. Ensuring that appropriate company procedures are applied to the project engineering. Ensuring that the Configuration Management activity on their project is documented and applied to the level required bythe contract. Facilitating engineering management of project linked design, manufacture and trials activities. Organising and conducting engineering reviews. Supporting trials and maintaining design and build standard definition. Providing engineering support at risk reviews. Providing engineering support at QA and safety reviews Ensuring specifications / interface requirements are available and met. Preparing and issuing the engineering data pack, supporting evidence for certification and Design Certificates. Ensuring that the engineering design aspects are on time and negotiate allocation of appropriate resources with ProjectManager. Including the provision of support during customer meetings and associated preparation. Obtaining and reporting engineering team commitment against schedule, technical and commercial requirements. Liasing with Subcontractors, internal departments (including Manufacturing) and the Customer. Liasing with Sector Chief Engineer on an as required basis. Reporting to the Project Manager regularly and to identify risk and areas of concern promptly. Providing inputs to Monthly, Quarterly and Final Reports. Providing mentoring, encouragement and guidance to engineering staff and to assist with identifying training anddevelopment needs to meet company competence requirement predictions. Assisting in the promotion of the company and its products.EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Chartered Engineer status qualified to Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. A sound engineering background with a detailed understanding of hardware. At least 8 years of experience in the design of automotive, weapon or military vehicle systems. Successful track record in engineering design, new product development and test achievement in a Project Managementenvironment. Knowledge of engineering including safety standards and legislation preferably in defence related industries. Good facilitator with the ability to manage complex teams Ability to work with minimal supervision and influence team members. Attention to detail. Ability to write clear and concise reports and prepare and mount presentations to a high standard. Experience in dealing with MoD customers. Experience in use of DOORS, ProEngineer software packages would be an advantage. A working knowledge of SAP R3 Version 4.6 would be an advantage.
