Description:

When assigned to a project team as the lead cost engineer represents and acts on behalf of the Chief Cost Engineer tosupport the company's requirements for an integrated Project Control System.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:1. To prepare project cost control plans in accordance with project and client requirements for inclusion in the ProjectControl Plan.2. In conjunction with the Project Control Manager and the Lead Scheduler, establish job-specific code of accounts, inaccordance with the project WBS, which forms the basis for detailed level cost control and reporting.3. Together with the Project Control Manager, direct the preparation and maintanence of Project Control and CheckEstimates.4. To prepare, review and issue overall client and management cost reports.5. To establish and maintain change control systems. Ensure proper evaluation of discipline change notices, determiningcost impact on all affected areas.6. To lead the project cost monitoring, analysis and forecasting functions. Devise and distribute plans, budgets andstandards of performance for every area of activity and through early detection of variations, maximise the opportunityfor cost effective corrective action.7. Constantly search for ways to reduce the project cost.8. To prepare cashflows and currency distribution forecasts.9. To prepare and make presentations to project teams and client on cost control methodologies and procedures used by thecompany.10. To support Sales and Proposal groups in the preparation of proposals.11. To assist the Chief Cost Engineer in administration of the Cost Control group and the development of new cost controltools and methodologies.PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING:An essential part of the job is the identification of problems impacting overall project costs and the formulation (inconjunction with other project team members) of remedial actions.Whilst the decision process resides with the Project Manager the incumbent is in a position to exert influence on suchdecisions. In order to achieve this he requires extensive knowledge of the engineering, procurement and constructionoperations and related costs.Supervision received is related to overall objectives with all operational decisions made by the incumbent.TECHNICAL AND ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:The job requires considerable evaluate judgement and a high level of technical competence in Cost Engineering. Logic,creativity and innovation skills are desirable for the development of new cost control tools and methodologies. A highdegree of computer literacy is essential.The job requires 15 years (8 years in a supervisory capacity) experience in cost engineering major EPC projects. Asignificant part of this experience should have been gained on job sites (field) assignments.Whilst an Engineering degree qualification is desirable, HND/HNC is acceptable.SUPERVISORY SKILLS:On major projects the Principal Cost Engineer supervises the work of assigned cost engineers and technicians.In addition to supervisory skills the incumbent must exercise a high degree of skill in communications and ininterpersonal relationships in order to function as an effective member of a multi-disciplined team.Functional responsibilities involve extensive interface with all levels of management and Client organisations.Must be willing to counsel and advise peers and subordinates and capable of deputising for the group manager.Ames Ref 2658 Location Middlesex Contract Duration Duration 6-15 monthsRate to GBP 35.50/hr
