Ensure the reliability, security, and performance of Oracle DataBase internal and external customers, according to SLAs& Key Performance Indicators. Oracle version systems include 8i, 9i, 10g, and Oracle Application Server. Core work hoursare 9-6 but this service is offered to customers on a 24 hours per day, seven days per week basis with an on call rotafor out of hours coverage. It will sometimes be necessary to perform scheduled and emergency maintenance tasks outside ofnormal working hours.CORE FUNCTIONSSystems Administration support :* Perform Data Base troubleshooting, problem solving, tuning, and repairs as appropriate* Respond in a timely and professional way to support requests raised as Help desk calls or trouble tickets by internaland external customers, ensuring relevant bodies are fully informed at all times and faults are escalated appropriately.(Includes working on an on-call rota for out-of-hours support of Oracle customers, and systems)Systems Administration proactive administration :* Detect and resolve or escalate problems before they become service affecting* Administer and maintain all aspects of Data Base Administration, performing health checks, performance monitoring,backup verification, capacity planning and other housekeeping duties* Document Oracle Related Systems, operations guides, backup & recovery, maintenance and security procedures* Evaluate and help to improve existing or new Oracle Data Base Administration tools* Keep abreast of all relevant Oracle developments, innovations and best practise, maintaining levels of professionalaccreditation where appropriate.Systems Administration - Build :* Design and build Oracle Data Bases, including all relevant installation, configuration and commissioning tasks withinagreed timescales* Support Pre-Sales and product development by specifying Oracle solutions focussing on security, performance,scalability, resilience, software licensing & manpower estimates. This may include customer-facing work* Perform additional tasks as and when required by the company, as directed by line managementSkills required :-* 5 years plus IT experience in relevant field(s)* In-depth knowledge of Oracle 8-10 and Application Server* In-depth Data Base Administration and knowledge of Unix Operating systems: e.g. architecture design and build;configuration, backup, recovery, Use of performance analysis to tune systems* In depth knowledge of Oracle or other relational databases, including use of a database query language* Experience in designing or technically vetting designs for Oracle Data Base solutions and different hardware and thetechnical requirements to run Oracle Data Bases.Desirable Skills :-* Working within an ISP environmemnt* Experience with Solaris and RedHat Linux* Experience with SunCluster III and/or Veritas Cluster Server* Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager* Ability to write scripts in an administrative language, such as Perl.* Knowledge of server security and auditing toolsUp to GBP 40k, BUPA, pension, death in service benefit, 25 days holiday, 09:00 17:30, 24 on call rota every 3 weeks, oncall allowance |
