Description:

It is expected that applicants will be physics graduates with some experience of geometrical optical design. An appliedoptics MSc or some practical experience in optical engineering would be helpful.The position is principally for new product development but will also involve giving support to existing products. Theemphasis of the role will be on non-symmetric compact folded systems rather than high order imaging systems.Candidates will be expected to have some experience of the following:Photometric and stray light analysisSequential and non sequential ray tracing.Coherent, incoherent and partially coherent physical optics.Polarisation, devices and analytical methods (e.g. birefringence, dielectrics, dichroism, Jones matrices).Diffractive optics (e.g. custom DOEs, CGHs, volume holograms, Fresnel zone plates)Solid state light sources (LEDs, RCLEDs,pointsource LEDs, VCSELs diode lasers).Photodetection devices, system tradeoffs including pre-amplifiers, noise optimisation etc.Close liaison with other team members such as electronic and mechanical engineers will be required.
