Currently our client has development programmes with a number of universities and research establishments.The company has a total workforce of 160, well run by technical excellence their products are technically better than anyother on the market . They assemble hundreds of thousands of products per year with up to 25,000 variations, with 132ways of going through production they assemble high value, low volume products.This appointment has arisen due to the promotion of their current operations manager, who is now the companies GeneralManager Deputy Managing Director, who joined the company four years ago. The emphasis on the role then was bring thecompany into the 21st century. they can now boast that its facility is State of Art with employees becoming moreaccountable and empowered. However the is still much more to do. Their customers have become much more quality consciousand are asking for RFT components and are looking for traceability and a guarantee in PPM. Therefore they need to look attheir processes, address route course, ensuring that all checks and balances are in place. They feel they should beintroducing Six Sigma and the training of. Components are increasingly becoming multiple chip and are often flightcritical rather than single chip parts. Another issue is that there is no formal prototype department therefore hand overfrom design to production is poor and needs to be addressed. There is also the issue of product costing where they havein passed use the theory of constraints, this should be used in this case. Cost downs need to be achieved by VA and VE.The Operations Manager is likely to have at least five years engineering /prodution/purchasing and managerial experiancetogether with expeiance of implementing the above. An Engineering related degree is required, experience of electronicswould be ideal, but those from an automotive background would have a distinct advantage. A background of change / leanmanagement is essential together with strong leadership and motivation skills. |
