Project Design Engineer (Mechanical)Job DescriptionAn exciting and varied role, working within a small team of project design engineers and project managers in the field ofcommunity heating & CHP in buildings. The team develops projects from original concept stage through to installation,construction and commissioning of plant and infrastructure for handover to operations staff. Feasibility studies are alsoundertaken for clients and this role will involve an element of this work.Typical projects include the design and installation of district heating & cooling pipe infrastructure, fabrication ofmetering and control stations, installation of combined heat & power (CHP) plant and the installation of boilers andancillary HVAC equipment.The Project Design Engineer will be involved in the detailed design and construction of such projects, typically afterthe conceptual design has been agreed.Key DeliverablesTo include:-Detailed design of mechanical building services with a particular focus on centralised systems; including layout andspecification of central plant, distribution pipework and associated ancillary equipment.The candidate may also be expected to carry out some of the following tasks:-Procurement of materials and plant, tendering and appointment of contractors, liaison with clients, third partyconsultants and contractors, supervision of specific contractors, preparation of Health & Safety documentation & O&Mmanuals.The Person SpecificationA motivated and professional person, with a degree in Building Services, Energy or Mechanical Engineering and with atleast 3-5 years experience in the detailed design of commercial/industrial heating plant and associated infrastructureand ancillary systems. A demonstrated ability to prioritise and organise workload and good communication skills areessential. Candidates with knowledge and experience of CHP or district heating would be an advantage but is notessential.Good written English, MS Excel and basic AutoCAD skills are all essential.The successful candidate will need to meet with clients, potential clients, local authorities and suppliers; thereforestrong presentation and interpersonal skills are essential.The post will be based in Crawley, however projects are UK-wide and a flexible approach is essential, potentially stayingaway from home for several days or weeks if necessary.Salary: c.
