There is a network of field based staff providing the merchandising and sales promotion service and the recentlyrefurbished head office is in an attractive location overlooking Portsmouth Harbour. Overall, around 140 people areemployed. The company culture is based on quality, service and hygiene and there is significant potential for growth andincreased market share. In such a dynamic and fast changing environment, there is a clear requirement for strong HRpolicies and processes and this is the main reason for this new appointment.The RoleHR and Payroll Support is currently provided by external consultants and it is envisaged that they will continue toprovide high level support whilst the core HR Administration is brought in-house. The aim is to recruit an establishedadministrator who has had previous involvement in HR and now wishes to further develop these skills. The HR duties willinclude Recruitment, processing of starters and leavers, liaison with the payroll provider and ongoing HR record keepingon a computerised database. There is a need to provide advice on HR issues, particularly relating to the management ofdiscipline, grievances and absence. The job holder will also be expected to review and update HR policies, procedures andsupporting documentation in the light of forthcoming legislation and to ensure that the management team is fully briefed.Production of HR activity reports for the UK management team and the parent company will also form part of the role. Inaddition, the job holder will maintain training records and manage the performance appraisal process. The post reportsdirectly to the MD and will involve regular contact with the Management team in Portsmouth and around the country. Thechallenge in the role is to encourage mangers to be more proactive and positive in their dealings with people whilstfollowing established policies and procedures. Over a period of time, the HR Officer will have the opportunity to providemore strategic HR support and to become an integral member of the management team.The PersonApplicants should be proven administrators with involvement in HR issues. We are looking for someone with a keen interestin HR, perhaps with a desire to progress through professional studies for the CIPD. Well developed IT skills areimportant and these will include Word, Excel and Outlook as well as experience of database software. Fundamentally, weare looking for a natural organiser and self starter who is focused on delivering results and making things happen. Theability to multitask, to work in a team, to set priorities and to manage projects is also essential. Applicants must havestrong, subtle communication skills and the ability to build working relationships across the business.
