Applicants must be willing to provide evidence of eligibility to work in the UK if requested.Main purpose of the jobTo create DSP solutions for wireless projects, from preparing the specification and designing the architecture through todetailed design, test, documentation and maintenance, and eventual hand-over of the full design to the client.Type of work undertaken by the groupThe Digital Signal Processing Group applies signal-processing techniques to a wide range of our clients applications. Aspart of our clients Wireless Business Unit, much of our work is focused on telecommunications, healthcare and consumergoods.Our expertise ranges from complex software solutions in off-the-shelf DSP chips through to DSP ASIC/FPGA cores and purehardware implementations. Approaching problems with this breadth of knowledge allows us to develop the power-efficient,low-cost designs demanded by so many wireless applications.Specialised intellectual property like our APE2 VLIW processor enables us to use digital signal processing wheretraditionally analogue techniques have dominated. Typical examples are software radio, and digital implementation ofradio frequency and phase loops.Recent examples of development work include a cellular radio telemetry system for real-time medical monitoring, asatellite telephone, an ultra wide band (UWB) system architecture, and a software radio ASIC for a consumer application.Specific responsibilitiesThe role of the DSP Engineer will be:Undertaking the detailed design of software and hardware DSP systemsWriting models and simulations of processing functionsWorking closely with hardware engineers to debug and optimise designsUnderstanding and working from the relevant standards for the communications system in questionWorking at all times as part of a close-knit multi-disciplinary project team focussed on delivering the design solutionto our clientParticipating in sales meetings with clients to understand their requirements and demonstrate our clients capabilityPreparing and contributing to proposals and quotationsCreating innovative design solutions that will be of particular interest to our clientsDocumenting software designs to a high standard of qualityMinimum RequirementsEither recently graduated or perhaps with 2 or 3 years experience, you will have:A good degree in mathematics or engineeringFluent programming in both C and MATLABGood software engineering skillsSolid grasp of radio communications theoryExcellent mathematical skillsGood communication skills, both verbal and writtenFuture prospectsThe company is committed to developing its employees careers and has a flexible policy for individual capabilities andpreferences.
