The RoleThe successful candidate will be involved in a range of projects. They will undertake desk-based studies on a range ofsubjects; these will include being responsible for interpreting, assessing and reporting on contaminated land data. Theywill also be involved in supervising site works, where data on potential contamination is obtained. This will involvespending some time working at sites around the United Kingdom.Initially working as part of a small team, the successful candidate will be encouraged to take responsibility forspecific tasks within a project and will be expected to contribute to the presentation of results to customers, either inthe form of a report or as a presentation. They will also be expected to support other team members with businessdevelopment activities from time to time.Desirable AptitudesThe successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary environment on a range of technically challenging problems,and will possess the following aptitudes:* Technically able and innovative* Excellent written and verbal communication skills* The ability to work well in and also to manage multi-disciplinary teams* Adaptable so they can work on a number of varied projects at the same time* Capable of dealing with real problems in a practical manner* An enthusiasm for interacting with customers and for solving their problems* The ability to identify business opportunities and win work from customersPrevious ExperienceThe successful candidate will have a first degree in geology or other related discipline and, ideally, a post-graduatequalification in an environmental discipline. They will be able to use a range of software packages. Ideally, they willhave experience of using Geographical Information System software.Environmental Management DepartmentOur clients Environmental Management Department provides a wide range of services concerned with radioactive wastemanagement, storage and disposal, radioactivity in the environment, the management of contaminated land, sitecharacterisation, groundwater flow, and the characterisation of oil reservoirs in fractured rocks. Our expertise enablesus to offer consultancy, along with field and laboratory services. In support of this work, we have developed a range ofpowerful software tools, including for example, programs for modelling the release of radionuclides from nuclearfacilities, the migration of contaminants in groundwater, and for helping waste producers design and optimise their wastemanagement strategies.The Department is based in Oxfordshire with a number of staff in Cheshire. They also have an office at Dounreay inScotland with a focus on the environmental management and radioactive waste management areas.The company serve customers in many countries around the world and recruits may be asked to work abroad from time totime. Members of the Department have qualifications in the physical, chemical and environmental sciences, engineering,geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry and mathematics.RemunerationThe salary for these posts is in the range of GBP 18k through to GBP 35k depending on relevant experience. |
